Storm updates and more (2 for 2)

Praise Jesus For His Mercy!

This storm was originally supposed to come in at a Cat 4. Could you imagine the real damage and flooding this slow monster would have done at a Cat 4? Many around the State prayed, we prayed and prayed and God showed us mercy again. He weakened the storm drastically before it hit land. I wrote 2 for 2 in the title because if you remember last year that big hurricane was supposed to hit and we all prayed and it curve north right off the coast. I believe God intervened twice! I don’t want to discount the trouble and damage from the flooding problems some are facing and even the lives that have been lost but I truly believe it could have been worse. We heard that Chinquapin NC got flooded good and we want to lift up Pastor Pat and the brothers and sisters at Sharon Baptist Church.

I can’t tell you 100% the status of our own home because Mama went to stay with family in the mountains in Asheville. She told us she got word from the neighbors that our neighborhood was not flooded and in general it seemed that our home did not have any missing siding but it’s hard to tell about the roof. We were very nervous because she waited last minute and was not able to get the windows boarded before she left and we were still expecting that monster hurricane to come in. Praise God it didn’t come so powerful! It is sad to hear however that there were some who have passed away because of the storm and some more now having problems with flooding. We hope that those who passed that they had Christ and his salvation and are enjoying their home in heaven right now.

It’s times like this that should give us a wake up call. Storms like this can be used as tools for God’s judgement and purposes. God has used waters of judgement many times in the scriptures with Noah and the Ark, Moses and the Egyptians, even water baptism that represents death and judgement through the waters of baptism. Paul made this clear with the following:

1 Corinthians 10:2

And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;

We must also remember those days when we were first saved again.

Hebrews 10:32
But call to remembrance the former days, in which, after ye were illuminated, ye endured a great fight of afflictions;

Let’s remember the commendation and warning to the church of Ephesus:

Revelation 2:2-5:
I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars: And hast borne, and hast patience, and for my name’s sake hast laboured, and hast not fainted.Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.

Let us continue to renew ourselves in purpose and spirit about what we are still on this earth for and learn to suffer again for his namesake.

Some updates over on our side. We are going to be leaving next week for Malaysia to attempt to get a dependent visa for the family. We really hope we don’t have the same problems as we did in Savannakhet Laos. If we do have problems we may have to fly from Malaysia to Vientiane which is the capital of Laos and try there next. We know we can get the visa in Vientiane Laos because they already told us last time on the phone we could . The reason we are not going there first is that the overall cost is much more expensive and it is inconvenient. We would rather try Malaysia first if there is a chance we will save some money and inconvenience. It is a risk but we will see if it pays off or not.  With Thai immigration it is always unpredictable.

Completely unrelated and out of nowhere, I have decided to audition for a part in an upcoming action movie in China. I am still seeing how the Lord leads because I don’t care about things like this, but if it is a bridge and a platform to share the gospel with those he is leading us to then it is worth it. I don’t know if I ever mentioned this to any of you before but I met a guy year’s ago that is a fairly famous movie director in China. I went with him one time to watch him direct the movie and watch this movie get filmed. Many of the actors there were asking for my contact because they said they were interested in having me star in some roles, however, I politely declined at the time.

We have been continuing to follow up with local discipleship and will be meeting again this Wednesday with our local business owner friend. Please pray for my other friend who is also a local business owner who I have been trying to witness to and increasingly finding difficulties in talking with him at all about spiritual things, I fear the enemy has snatched the goods seeds away. It some ways it has been difficult because it seems like every time I have had a good opportunity to witness to him as soon as I go to follow up he ends up being busy with some distraction in life or his business. Then a few days or a week passes and it’s like starting from scratch again. The last time I was giving him some words of witness I could tell he just didn’t want to hear it. He was talking about how stressed he was at work sometimes and I mentioned that if he is stressed how he can give those worries to God because God cares for him and wants to help him. I mentioned how only God can help the matters of the heart. His reply immediately was “I know, I know” in a bit of a impatient tone. In times past he was open and listening but now it seems that he has hardened his heart and is now outright rejecting the truth. These situations are difficult because sometimes when people have had some witness and continued to not receive it the time comes when that person may harden their hearts even more and them grow to resent you and the message. We need to pray for Long that God would soften his heart and pray for wisdom that I will know when share and if it is perhaps just time to just move on.

We continue to have other good witness opportunities and some we will share about in future posts. We also plan to continue to follow up with posts about the whole situation with the Chinese church to help everyone get a better picture of what is happening there. Once again, thanks for all your support both through prayer and finances. We must always remember that God is going to reward eternally in heaven any sacrifice and generosity towards his word getting out to the world.  If God does put on your heart to help a mission in need or you know someone or a church that may be interested please feel free to check out our donation page.

God bless you all! We continue to pray for you all often and we don’t just say that. We actually do pray for you all. We pray that God will give you all the wisdom how to serve faithfully in your own communities as well.  Please also contact us by email anytime at if you want to say hi, you would like prayer, or would like to talk more about how to get involved and partner with us.

In Jesus name! Amen!
